“It’s such a shame when you see bands but they’re habitually in their band—they’re not enjoying it,” Wet Leg’s Rhian Teasdale tells Apple Music. “I don’t want us to ever lose sight of having fun. Having silly songs obviously helps.” There’s more depth to the Isle of Wight duo’s debut than that description suggests, but it certainly delivers fun in various forms. Having broken through with drolly suggestive single “Chaise Longue,” Teasdale and Hester Chambers enrich their blend of tongue-in-cheek lyrics and indelible post-punk melodies with tracks such as icy, vengeful kiss-off “Loving You” and “Supermarket,” a deeply relatable psych-pop drama about being too high to buy groceries.
